Why is the order date displayed to the customer different from the order date in the xml file received through AWI?

If you see the difference in the date displayed to the customer (on order detail and order complete page) and the date displayed in the XML file or on the job detail report, then there is likely an incorrect time zone set for the site or for the specific user. If you have set the incorrect time zone for your site, all the orders will show the difference in in time, however if the incorrect time zone is selected for the user then you may find this error in the orders related the user whose time zone has been incorrectly set.
