What is the difference between the Price Group mark up and the material or production resource mark up?

Question: What is the difference between the Price Group mark up and the material or production resource mark up?

Answer: The Price Group mark up is used as an overall mark up to the estimate or the job which can apply one mark up to all materials and one mark up to all production resources or just an overall mark up to all items. The mark ups on the material and production resource level are more flexible as you can mark up items differently.

The Price Group Mark up gives you the ability to use an overall mark up to the estimate or job which applies the same percentage to everything.  If the overall is set to 50% then the materials, the labor and the equipment will all be marked up 50%.  The price group also allows you to mark up materials a certain percentage, labor a certain percentage and equipment a certain percentage. Instead of using the 50% overall you can use 50% mark up for the materials, 30% mark up for the labor and 40% for the equipment. Now all materials in the estimate or job will be marked up 50%, all labor 30% and all equipment 40%.

The material level and the production resource level mark ups allow you to mark up items differently. You can mark up all digital materials 30% at the material level and all the wide format materials 50% at the material level. This gives you a lot more flexibility as you can mark up different materials or production resources differently.
