Over the past few weeks, it has felt that everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong. We've experienced data center network problems, server hardware problems, faulty Microsoft server updates, and more. Today our DNS provider (www.dnsimple.com) experienced a denial of service attack (DDoS) that left thousands of servers across the internet, including ours, working but unfindable.
The timing of this couldn't be worse, of course. We know that the holiday buying season is important to many of you. We are, of course, terribly sorry about all of this.
Ironically, Aleyant signed an agreement with our primary data center nearly two months ago for new private cloud infrastructure that will dramatically assist with many of these concerns. While the hope was that the migration to the new infrastructure would have been completed by now, we are confident that our data center will be able to complete this process in the next few weeks.
Benefits of the new private cloud infrastructure include:
- New Cisco firewall, with 10x capacity
- New internal network switches, with 10x capacity
- New servers, with significantly more processing power and RAM
- New storage server, with 3-4x throughput
- Shift from Microsoft HyperV to VMWare, which will provide greater fault tolerance
- More bandwidth, with 10x capacity
As you can see, there are some great improvements in store.
Again, I am very sorry for the problems experienced today. We will continue to find ways to mitigate these types of issues and thank you for your understanding.
