Each site you create in your Pressero account has a Domains settings window that allows you to manage any domain URL addresses that will be used with that site. Sites can have multiple domain address URLs that the site can respond to, as well as secure connection and redirect settings.
IMPORTANT: Before you set a domain address to be secure using the padlock icon on the address list, please read over the section about setting the site to be ready for secure ordering linked below. When that setting is enabled, the site WILL DISPLAY AN ERROR until the certificate can be retrieved and installed, this could take as little as three hours, or as much as twenty-four hours to complete. Please plan for this 3-24 hour outtage accordingly when taking your sites live for secure ordering, if you think your site has been set for more than 24 hours and is still showing an error, please open a ticket to us at support.aleyant.com.
The Domains settings window
If you login to your Pressero account, the list of your sites is available on the left-hand side of the admin window, each site has a Domains settings window available from the drop-down list below the site name. This window allows you to manage different settings for the addresses for that site, adding or removing addresses, setting flags for primary domain address, or secure setting, et cetera.
Adding a new domain name is done by entering the new domain address in the New Domain Name setting area and clicking the Add New Domain button. If the site address being added should be secure, then you can enable Use SSL Certificate for this Domain. When this setting is initially enabled, the site will show an error until Pressero fetches and installs the new certificate. This could potentially take 24 hours, and is dependent on the site domain address set in domain DNS to point to Pressero.
Note that the checkbox for Use SSL Certificate for this Domain name will not stay checked after the Add New Domain button has been clicked. The addresses are added to the window on the right, and the addresses listed there will show a locked icon if that address is set to be secure, or an unlocked icon if the site address is not secure. Secure locked or not secure unlocked can be enabled or disabled for any domain address by clicking on the lock icon on the list on the right.
There is also a star icon on the list on the right that indicates if the address is set to be the Primary Domain for that site. That means that the site could be reached by entering any of the listed addresses into a browser window, but will load up on the Primary Address for that site when visited in the browser. In most situations, you will designate a Primary Domain address for your site in this manner and then check the Redirect to Primary Domain setting.
Save any changes you make in this window by clicking the Save button. If DNS changes have finished propagating to Pressero for the domain address, then any changes done in this window should be live presently on the site.
Using your Temporary Base Domain
When your Pressero account was setup, a temporary domain name URL was issued to you for addressing your sites on our servers. This follows the format of accountname.v6.pressero.com (Pressero Chicago) orsitename.accountname.sg.v6.pressero.com (Pressero Singapore) and is shown in your initial account welcome letter as the Temporary Base Domain.
As you create sites on the Pressero system, you will assign them a domain address on the Pressero server using this temporary base domain address. Please review your Welcome letter for the Temporary Base Domain name assigned to you on Pressero and what your Pressero login address is, as these names will be different depending on what server your account is on. Temporary refers to the fact that most clients will be using their sites on the Pressero system before making those sites live on their full custom domain name addresses. A Pressero site you create on a temporary domain address can remain on that address as long as you like.
When starting out, you will use the temporary domain URL by assigning a prefix to it for a site, and assigning the whole address in this window. Depending on what server your account is hosted on, your temporary domain address would look like one these (with sitename and accountname changed to your own details): sitename.accountname.chi.v6.pressero.com (Pressero Chicago), sitename.accountname.ams.v6.pressero.com (Pressero Amsterdam), or to sitename.accountname.sg.v6.pressero.com (Pressero Singapore).
It is important to use the Temporary Base Domain value that was assigned to you on the Pressero system, please review the welcome letter information or and open a ticket to Pressero Support (support.pressero.com) if you have any questions about assigning temporary domain values for your sites.
Setting up a domain address for a site
For a new domain address, follow the following steps to add a new primary domain for your site:
1. Enter your new domain address and click "Add New Domain".
2. The new domain address will be added to the "Domains for This Site" list.
3. Select your new domain address and click "Set as Primary Domain".
4. Enable settings for SSL/https if desired.
5. Click Save on this window to save any changes to site settings.
Setting as the Primary Domain just means that if you have multiple addresses, it will redirect to the primary domain no matter what domain address the users type in to visit the site. So if the site is set for sitename.accountname.v5.pressero.com and mydomain.name.com, it will redirect to www.mydomainname.com if someome first goes to sitename.accountname.v4.pressero.com in the browser window.
Use SSL Certificate for this Domain is only for adding new domain names to this list, and this setting checkbox will not stay selected when this window is saved. A domain that is set to be secure will appear on the list on the right with a small HTTPS lock icon on it. If you have a domain on this list that needs to be set to be secure you can select it on the right and click the "Set as https" button.
